The 11th Technique Salon on Water Industry

　　On June 2, "The 11th Technique Salon on Earthquake relief and Water Environment" was co-organized by Environmental Dept of Tsinghua University and Chinawater.net at Environmental Building in Tsinghua University. The topic of this workshop is "Earthquake relief and Water Environment ". This salon is hosted by Doctor Fu Tao, director of Water Sector Policy Research Centre of Tsinghua University. Guests from academia and enterprises discussed on the topic, the real situation and the problems that existed in this earthquake relief, the environmental monitoring and water supply security problems, then they proposed a lot of advices from professional perspective on the next step of the earthquake relief work.

　　Chen Jining, Executive Deputy Principle of Tsinghua University, the earthquake-hit area faced different problems in different periods, the emergency period, placement period, the reconstruction period. The problems will get more and more serious, and need good coordination and command. The first concern is the chemical pollution and the big-size water source protection. After these two problems, the core issue is the microbiological safety of drinking water.

　　
　　Zhang Xiaojian, expert of water supply security, devoted himself in the earthquake-hit area for 10 nights. He probed into the security of drking water of the area. After investigation, monitoring and analysis, he pointed that it should determine the single emergency technique, then design different process combined with the unique situation of the water plant and the different risks of various water quality.

　　According to the discussion and conclusion of this salon, the problems come out from this earthquake. First, the environmental monitoring and management capacity is not enough, it can’t satisfy the emergency need; Second, the daily management is not in place; The last is the contingency plan. These problems are warning on other parts of the country's water environment and water security issues.

　　Besides, "2008 Advanced Technology Forum on Water Industry" ,which will be held in July 19th, Chinawater.net and Environmental Science and Engineering Department of? Tsinghua University will set a unique topic on the water environment after the earthquake, concerning about the reconstruction of the earthquake-hit area.
